TARGET RIFLE. Cal. 40, 1 7/8". S# 17472. Bbl. 26" rnd. with standard "Old Reliable" marking. Globe front sight with Lawrence patent graduated leaf rear sight and mid-range Vernier tang sight. Falling block action with plain trigger. Schnabel tipped forearm and "S" curved pistol grip walnut stock with checkered hard rubber buttplate having Sharps Rifle Co. monogram and point pattern factory checkering. Of approx. 8,700 Borchardt rifles mfg. 1878-1881, approx. 153 were of the scarce short range model. Weight: 8lbs. 14oz. CONDITION: bbl. retains 80% lightly faded blue with a series of dents in the forward portion that have evidence of touched up finish. Action has faded to gray. Lightly sanded and refinished wood with lightly freshened checkering shows scattered scratches and marks. Sound action. Lightly pitted bore retains sound rifling. (01-27590/DS). ANTIQUE. $4,000-7,000.
